Three women were wounded in separate stab attacks carried out by a man in different parts of Milton Keynes.
Two of the victims were walking when they were stabbed by the man. Both received cuts to the leg which required hospital treatment.The third had minor cuts to her arm when she was attacked while cycling.
Police said patrols had been stepped up in Bradwell Common, Saxon Gate East and Conniburrow, where Monday's attacks took place.
Det Insp Neil Dodds said: "All three attacks were entirely unprovoked and we are treating the incidents extremely seriously.
'Walk with friends' "Although none of the women have been seriously injured, they have been left distressed and I would appeal to anyone who has seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.
"I would urge women to stay to well-populated areas and, if possible, walk with friends or family."
The first attack took place as the 47-year-old victim walked on the bridge at Wandsworth Place, Bradwell Common, at 0215 GMT.
At 0845 GMT, a 41 year old was stabbed under a subway on Saxon Gate East. Both women were stabbed in the leg.
A third woman, 58, received cuts to the arm as she cycled in Cleavers Avenue, Conniburrow, at 1345 GMT.
