A Florida federal jury is expected to resume deliberations just about now after breaking for lunch in the drug trial of international reggae artiste Buju Banton.
The 12 member jury began its deliberations following closing arguments yesterday in the federal court in Tampa, four days after the trial started.
The jury is determining whether Buju, whose real name is Mark Myrie conspired to buy cocaine from an undercover police officer last year.
Buju is charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and aiding two others in possessing a firearm during the course of cocaine distribution.
He faces up to life in prison.
In closing arguments yesterday, Buju’s attorney said an undercover US government informant only managed to connect the other men, but not Buju to the conspiracy.
Assistant US Attorney James Preston argued that Buju’s conversations with the informant put the conspiracy into motion.
